Farewell 2018!

Hi! It's been almost 6 months since I wrote my last blog post but I've finally found the time and motivation to open up Blogger again and get back into it. I mean, it has been a super busy year but I didn't really feel like I had any content to write that people would want to read so have had a bit of a break too. It feels good to have spent the extra time with the kids and sorting things out with the house but I'm so ready to get back into writing more often now, it helps me clear my head!

So, here we are at the end of 2018 and it's been good to us! We've both turned 30 (yikes, hello grey hairs aplenty!), went to Centre Parcs, had lots of fun days out, ate yummy food, gained a bit too much weight (yup, totally on that January diet train 🐷), Ollie turned 5, Elsie turned 2 and... we moved house! We definitely didn't think that would be happening this year and I feel so lucky for it to have all worked out the way it did.

We've looked at moving on and off over the last 4 years, viewing a handful of houses but never seeing anything that made us want to take the plunge at put ours on the market. Then we went to see a house in March and fell in love instantly. It was our forever family home, that just need the right amount of renovating for us. So we went home and decided that day to put ours on the market, all in the hope of getting the one we'd viewed. Obviously, there were so many what ifs and uncertainties along the way so my anxiety was through the roof. Too many things were out of my control but I'm definitely a believer of things happening for a reason so just tried to stay as calm as possible and be patient... not so good at that one 😂

Ours sold within 2 weeks of being on the market and luckily, the house we wanted hadn't sold in that time so we put an offer in and it was accepted! The sale went on a bit too long (I won't bore you with the details!) but we finally got the keys at the end of August, a couple of days before the kids went back to school. Our parents made moving day an absolute breeze and I wasn't even sad to say goodbye to the old house which I thought I would be, but the new house just felt like home straight away.

The house itself os only about 8 years old but needed some TLC. The garden was overgrown, every wall is magnolia and grubby and the carpets had all been scratched by a cat, but it was nothing that we couldn't get sorted over time. I tackled the garden the first weekend with my Mum and Aled's Dad so that it was a bit safer for the kids to play out but there's still plenty to do out there next year.

Inside, *we've done Ollie's room, Elsie's room, our bedroom, en-suite and the lounge which I think is amazing within 4 months. I'm in love with how the rooms have been transformed so far and can't wait to get cracking our other plans but we need to save up a bit now (and give my dad a bit of a break too haha). We've changed all the doors upstairs too and painted the hall/stairs/landing but I'm not doing the carpet until the bathroom's done as it'll get trashed.

*I say 'we', but my Dad has helped out so much, he's a bloody good egg 💙

With the house in 2019, we'd like to finish the spare bedroom, re-do the family bathroom, re-do the cloakroom and tackle the garden properly. We've got plans to convert the garage into a playroom too but I doubt either money or time will stretch to fit that in next year!

Other than that, we've got a trip to Centre Parcs booked and I'd love to take the kids to Legoland Windsor in the summer holidays along with an Airbnb stay in the Lake District or somewhere nice that we can do some exploring. We're still not fussed on going abroad yet, it's just so much money for a week away and I'd rather wait until Elsie's a little bit older.

Speaking of Elsie, she'll be going to Cylch (playgroup in School) every day when school opens again in January! She's growing up so bloody fast it's scary. Still the fiesty, sassy little pudding she's been since day one but my oh my does she love chatting, counting, singing and drawing now.... she's definitely not my baby anymore.

Oliver's doing really well too, he's in full time school now and loving it. He's still a bit reluctant to read/write but he's progressing nonetheless which makes me so proud. He's gone superhero and lego crazy too and started swimming lessons this year. Hopefully we can get him into another hobby in 2019 as he loves his weekly swimming trip.

I've had plenty of time to think about upcoming blog posts so have a few ideas to publish in the new year so hopefully it won't be another 6 months until you hear off me again 🙈 I hope 2018 has been good to you, and if it hasn't, here's hoping that 2019 will be the fresh start that you need. Happy New Year!
