Farewell 2018!

Hi! It's been almost 6 months since I wrote my last blog post but I've finally found the time and motivation to open up Blogger again and get back into it. I mean, it has been a super busy year but I didn't really feel like I had any content to write that people would want to read so have had a bit of a break too. It feels good to have spent the extra time with the kids and sorting things out with the house but I'm so ready to get back into writing more often now, it helps me clear my head!

Elsie's 2nd Birthday Ideas

With less than 3 weeks until Elsie turns 2, I thought I'd share with you what we've got her for her birthday and how I'm going to style her birthday party. Ignoring the fact that my little baby girl is about to become 2 (seriously, that time has flown by!), I'm so excited to celebrate and see her little face when she opens her presents. There's a definite theme to her birthday which you may have guessed already.... Ben and Holly! She's obsessed with Ben, Holly and little Gaston, along with Peppa Pig too (but I can definitely tolerate watching the Little Kingdom more than that spoilt little pig!). We aren't ones to spend a fortune at birthdays (normally about £150) and I'll keep things in my basket on a website until there's an offer on to make sure we save as much as we can! So here's what we've got our Elsie Pie this year...

Summer Bucket List

It's the summer holidays *woop woop*. I mean, I wish I was off for 6 weeks too, but I'm excited for some more family time nonetheless. I've got 7 days off dotted about, along with the weekends and Aled's got 3 weeks off (plus sides of working for the NHS) so I'm hoping we can fit in quite a few adventure days together. I don't know if anyone else is the same, but sometimes we end up spending most of the morning deciding what to do or where to go on a day off. So, we've written all our ideas down and put them together as a Summer Bucket List so we don't forget! So what have we got planned...

Penrhyn Castle

Seeing as though I've got less than a month left until I turn 30, I thought I might as well embrace the ageing and get a National Trust membership! Haha. Jokes aside, I'm so happy that we've got a load of places we can visit whenever we like now, which is great when Aled's working weekends and I don't know what to do with the kids. And the membership only costs £10 a month for all four of us which I think is a bargain! So when my Mum and Dad said that my Grandmas was visiting this weekend, I thought it would be the perfect time to make our first use of it and planned a trip to Penrhyn Castle, which is in Bangor.

Toddler Meal Ideas

I didn't want to call this a 'weaning' update as Elsie's definitely passed the weaning stage, but it does follow on from my previous posts about her weaning journey (4-6 months and 6-8 months). I get quite a lot of messages and comments on Instagram about what meals Elsie and Oliver have so I'll try my best to cover as much as possible. I've not done an update since 8 months so this is long overdue and a lot has changed since then! One thing hasn't changed though... she still loves her food! No idea where she gets that from....

Llyn Elsi

On Saturday morning we went for a walk up to Llyn Elsi for the first time. Like a lot I'm sure, we're always struggling for ideas of what to do at the weekend. Aled isn't a National Trust fan and our indoor options are limited around here. So there's always plenty of walks to do but obviously the weather has stopped us for the last few months. So now that it's finally dry (and a bit sunny too!) we tried a new walk. I just searched for walks around Betws y Coed and this was the top result. Seeing as though we have our own Elsie, I thought it was perfect!

Easter Box Gift Ideas

I can't believe that we're nearing the end of March already and Easter is only around the corner! Now if the weather could just warm up a bit I'd be very happy, the snow is just not welcome this far into the year 🙅 Anyway, I thought I'd share some Easter box ideas with you. I love doing boxes for the kids for Easter, Halloween and Christmas Eve, they don't need to cost a fortune and it's a nice little family tradition to have. My Dad made the wooden boxes I've got for the kids (which I've painted white) but you can pick up one from Hobbycraft for just £8. Then I just use shredded paper at the bottom and fill it with a selection of things like....

World Book Day 2018

I absolutely love reading to Oliver, and luckily he loves it too. It's nice to just cuddle up right before bedtime and have that quality time together. He asks questions, points things out and occasionally does a bit of acting along the way! Elsie's till a bit too young to listen properly to a story but she likes the 'That's not my' books. So we definitely like to get involved with World Book Day.

Mothers Day Gift Ideas

I can't believe that it's almost march already and Mother's Day is just around the corner! I know a load of you liked my Mother's Day gift guide last year so I thought I'd do another one this year. I actually really enjoy putting these together, if only I could just treat myself to some of the items sometimes (especially that MAMA jumper *all the heart eyes*). So here's some of the little gifts I like the look of this year...

Valentines Day Gift Ideas

Apologies now to anyone who doesn't have a valentine this year (or maybe if you just dislike it as a celebration anyway) but I thought I'd do a little roundup of some gift ideas I've come across recently. We don't go crazy for Valentine's Day in this house, Aled will normally get me some roses and I'll cook us a nice meal but we haven't done actual presents for a few years now. It does hold a special place in our hearts though as it's the day we moved into our house, almost 6 years ago!

So here are some ideas if you are the present buying kind (and I'm aware most of them are more for the ladies but I asked Aled for some male gift ideas and he said a PlayStation game and beer... so just went with my ideas instead 🙄🤣😂).

Aled's 30th Birthday

So Mr Roberts turned 30 on Monday. We've been together since we were 19 and I can remember it like it was yesterday winding him up that he was in his twenties when he turned 20. See, I have to get as many jokes in as I can because I'm only 4 months behind haha. So here we are a whole ten years later and I'm pretty sure that he'd rather me be winding him up about being in his twenties rather than his thirties! To celebrate his birthday, I had wanted to book a surprise trip away to Barcelona but I think I'd have been overwhelmed with anxiety and my Mum and Dad would have been ready for a fortnight abroad after having the kids for 3 days. So instead, I booked the Doubletree by Hilton in Chester for a night away.

SW Chicken Risotto

Chicken Risotto

This is my go-to tea when Aled's on nights and it's only me I need to cook for. I love risotto and this Slimming World version doesn't even feel like you're 'dieting'. Here's the recipe for one serving...

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I cannot believe how quickly 2017 flashed before my eyes. Apart from Mum having breast cancer (which was obviously dreadful but thankfully that's all behind us now and she's fighting fit), my anxiety getting the best of me and struggling with the full time working mum life balance, it was a good year for us. We enjoyed the last of my maternity leave, watched our baby girl grow and develop into the character that she is, celebrated Elsie's first birthday and Ollie's fourth, Ollie started school, we sorted out mortgage out and managed to wipe 7 years off it (boring adult life admin win right there), both got new cars, holidayed to Center Parcs, lost weight (and put half of it back on over Christmas, but that's ok right?!...), started this blog and had lots of fun family days that are good for the soul. So, what about 2018?...
