Gwinllan Conwy Festive Night

Last night I went back to Gwinllan Conwy for their 'Festive Flight and Feast' night. I went there for the first time a couple of weeks ago for Erika's 30th birthday afternoon tea and we had such a great time I booked for me and Mum to go back straight away! It's so refreshing to have somewhere new to go for afternoon tea/light bites locally, and even better when they make and sell award winning wine. And I know, a vineyard in North Wales, who'd have thought it?!

Siblings Project // October 2017

Can I still call myself a blogger?... Can't remember the last time I sat down and wrote a blog post but here I am! I've written up a list of blog posts I want to do and along with the 5 I've had sitting as drafts for 3 months (yep, I've been that bad recently) I'm hoping that I'll get back into he swing of things now. So where better to start than a little update on these two little monkeys? They really do keep us on our toes at the moment!

Chinese Fakeaway

I love chinese food. I mean I love all food, but 90% of the time it's my go-to choice for a takeaway. Since I started Slimming World in May, we've had way more 'fakeaway' nights than takeaways and it hardly bothers me. Most of the time, we just have chicken fried rice and mayflower curry sauce (which is really low in syns) but we add salt and pepper chips (free) and crispy duck pancakes (definitely not slimming world friendly) if we fancy a treat. So here's what goes into our chinese fakeaway nights...

Elsie's Cake Smash Photoshoot

Finally getting round to sharing all the photos from Elsie's cake smash with you all! I am SO happy with how the photos turned out so thought I'd share where I got all the clothing and decoration bits from and how I set it all up in case anyone was thinking of doing their own shoot at home too. We were going to have Elsie's cake smash done professionally but we just wanted to save some money.

Me and Mine // September 2017

It's really upset me that I've missed the last Me and Mine (and Siblings Project) post. Things all got a bit too much running up to my week off and I was barely finding the time to get important jobs around the house done, never mind take some family photos and sit down to write a blog post. However, things are a lot more organised now and I'm trying to keep on top of things a bit more so it doesn't get so on top of me again! So what's new with our little tribe? We've changed nursery for the kids, Elsie's turned one, we've had a lovely week and a half off work and we are rapidly preparing for a certain troublesome (but ridiculously funny too) threenager to start school next week.

Elsie's 1st Birthday

So it's happened, our baby girl has turned one! We had the best time celebrating her first birthday so I thought I'd share some photos with you (and there's quite a few, sorry about that!). Her birthday was on Friday the 18th so I set up her birthday presents the night before in the lounge with the standard big number foil balloon and then got a bit totally emotional about my baby turning into a toddler. Unfortunately no one was there to sob with me or tell me to man up as Aled was working nights (boohoo) but I managed to pull myself together in the end!

Elsie's 12 Month Update

It's the eve of my second baby's first birthday. I write this with a small mound of pink presents in front of me, a beautiful daughter sleeping soundly in her bed and a tear in my eye (such an emotional wreck since having her!). I always dreamed of having a little girl (that's nothing against Oliver in the slightest, I love him just as much) and I can't quite believe how quickly this last year has flashed before my eyes. I am so in love with this little girl of ours, as is everyone around her. She has grown and developed so much during this past year, you can literally see her blossoming into a toddler before our eyes.

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Dennis!

Yesterday we were lucky enough to watch two of our friends tie the knot and become Mr and Mrs Dennis. I honestly couldn't be happier for these two lovebirds. And seriously, you really could feel the love in the church/room yesterday, it was the most perfect day!

Elsie's Birthday Presents and Party Ideas

It's now less than a month until Elsie's birthday and since I'm a bit of an OCD super organised weirdo, I've known what theme and decorations her party will have and what presents to buy her for months. We're going to be having a party at home for her and *hopefully* we can spend most of the time in the garden as our house soon gets pretty cosy and cramped. But who knows with the British weather?! So, with only a few weeks to go, I thought I'd share some of the ideas I've had for her presents (I'm not buying all of them!) and where I'll be getting most of the decorations from...

Elsie's 11 Month Update

I can't quite believe that we now only have one month left until this sweet baby girl of ours turns one. It feels like only yesterday that she was all sleepy and scrunched up on my chest in the hospital with that super soft newborn skin and the most beautiful pouty lips (gets them from her Daddy). The last eleven months have literally flown by. And I know everyone says that but it really bloody does. It completely amazes me how much they can grow, learn and develop in such a short time. I'd do anything to go back for another cuddle!

Siblings Project //July 2017

Oh Oliver and Elsie, you really do keep us on our toes! Especially miss Elsie. This last month (before Ollie fractured his collarbone), he has taken to carrying Elsie into his bedroom to play. Now that he can't carry her, he tempts her to crawl through with toys she likes. It's so funny and cute to watch. Then if she escapes, he goes after her which makes her giggle her head off because she thinks he's chasing her. His other favourite thing to do is tell her off. He LOVES to be the one who's doing the telling off rather than being the naughty one for a change. So when she goes off rummaging through the kitchen cupboard or switches the Playstation on for the 218487th time of the day, he's straight over saying 'No, Elsie!', 'You're not allowed Elsie!'.

Chester Zoo with our two monkeys

It would be very difficult to write a bad review about our day out to Chester Zoo. We honestly had the best day! We haven't been since Ollie was about 9 months (see the photo below) so it was a much needed trip as I love the place. Last year we had an annual pass for the Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Heights but it's honestly not that great up there. It was ok to fill an hour or two or just to use the play area but it definitely doesn't fill a day and its nowhere near the standards of Chester. So we booked tickets (it's cheaper to book online up until the night before in case you are planning to visit there soon too) and off we went last Monday. The weather was on our side too which always helps!

Me and Mine // June 2017

We took our Me and Mine photos at the weekend but I've just not got around to writing a post to go with them! Nothing picturesque this month unfortunately, just a selfie on the floor with the ironing board in the background 😂 I had plans of going strawberry picking last week and taking a photo there but the weather crapped all over that idea.. so the lounge floor will do! We took a similar photo for our first Me and Mine photo in January and it was a lot trickier to get Elsie to stay still this time round.

Mum 1 - Cancer 0

Cancer. When you hear that word, it fills you with an overwhelming sense of fear. Fear of the unknown. You hear so many stories about the dreaded C word, thankfully many positive ones now but, unfortunately, the bad ones spring to mind first. Well they did for me anyway. When we found out that Mum had cancer in March it hit me like a tonne of bricks. The thought of my Mum (or Dad) ever not being there was so scary and upsetting. They only live around the corner from us and I pretty much speak to my Mum every day. She does SO much for me and I will forever be grateful for that, I'd be lost without her. My Mum, on the other hand, took the news amazingly well, and has continued to be so brave, optimistic and her usual happy self throughout the whole ordeal. Cancer well and truly picked a fight with the wrong person.

Elsie's 10 Month Update

As I write this, there's a pile of 9-12 month clothes ready for selling on IG, some Clarks shoes in the corner of the room and a newly attached harness on the high chair. All reminders that my baby is growing up right before my eyes. This past month she feels like she's grown up so much and (as with any development with her or Ollie) it fills me with a mixture of happiness seeing her grow and develop but also so bloody emotional that she's not my squishy newborn any more... far from it!

Siblings Project // June 2017

It's so funny to watch these two at the moment. One minute they're thick as thieves (playing together, mimicking each other and just generally being bloody cute) and the next, Ollie is pushing her away because she's after his food or shutting his bedroom door so she can't play with his toys. Me and Aled have got two days off at the end of the month and I can't wait to have some proper family days out with the two of them.

Me and Mine // May 2017

It's mine and Aled's 10 year anniversary today. 10 YEARS. How the hell did that happen?! We've known each other longer than that as we went to high school together but while we were pratting around in A Level Art class I never once thought we would end up dating. We got together the year after we left school after my friend Erika said I should text Aled to see how he is as she thought we were a good match! Since then we've been on holidays (Rhodes, Jamaica, Florida, Mexico), been to festivals (Wakestock and Glastonbury), had nights out, a bazillion meals out, had several cars, numerous hairstyles (me more than Aled, but he did grow it at one point which is always funny to look back on), bought a house, bought a cat (we actually bought two but one had to be re-homed) and most importantly made two babies. I'd love to tell you that we're spending it doing something romantic... but Aled's on nights so it's just me and my brew. Ah well!

Annabel Karmel's Baby Led Weaning Recipe Book

The first weaning book I ever bought was by Annabel Karmel. She more than knows her stuff when it comes to weaning! I've got four of her books and love using them all, so when I was asked if I'd like to be sent her new Baby Led Weaning Recipe Book, I was so excited. I've mentioned before in Elsie's weaning updates (4-6 month and 6-8 month), we haven't really adopted one method for weaning Elsie. There is a lot of pressure on parents to commit to either spoon feeding or baby led weaning. You can almost feel anxious to share with others which method you're using in case of any negative comments or judgement. The fact is, it should be what works for you. And what works for us is a mixture of both types. Annabel Karmel champions this, ensuring that there's plenty of recipes out there for you to try and see what your baby prefers. After all, they are all so very different (couldn't be more true when looking at Oliver and Elsie!).

Conwy RSPB with the Family

My Grandma has been here this weekend, staying at my Mum and Dads. So we all had a Chinese takeaway last night and then a day out today. I was meant to cook a fakeaway last night but I was bloody knackered and didn't fancy being stuck in the kitchen for half the night to Just Eat to the rescue! For our day out, we were going to walk up Aber Falls but I think the walk would have been too much for my Grandma. So instead, we walked along to the RSPB and spent a few hours there exploring and having a picnic lunch.

Elsie's 9 Month Update

9 whole months of our Elsie Pie! My little girl isn't feeling like so much of a baby this past week. I know she's still only 9 months old but she's growing up so quickly. Her crawling has come on so much this month, she zooms from room to room at a record pace with an excited little giggle and the biggest smile on her face. She's loving her new found freedom to explore the house which has already resulted in her: eating the cat food, opening kitchen cupboards, almost breaking Aled's PS4, changing the channel on the Sky box 172345 times, tipping drinks over on the side table, having a sixth sense for wherever the smallest toys in Ollie's room are and immediately putting them in her mouth and her favourite past time... looking for the smallest bits of food under the dining table (don't worry, we spend most of our lives hoovering now before you think she eats 5 day old cheerios on a regular basis).

Siblings Project // May 2017

May 2017's Sibling Project photos will forever be remembered as the time I wanted to take some stereotypical IG bluebell photos... but failed 😂🙈 I've seen so many people take beautiful photos in bluebell fields and forests this month and wanted to do the same. So I googled where to find one and saw that Coed y Gopa in Abergele had a bluebell forest. So on Saturday afternoon, I packed a bag, got the kids ready and roped my Dad in for help and set off for a walk in the baking heat. It took us 30-45 minutes to get to the bluebell forest and although there were bluebells, it wasn't the picturesque scene I'd imagined. Nevertheless, we took some photos and really enjoyed the walk (the views were unreal).

Me and Mine // April 2017

These family photos are going to take a lot more planning from now on! I'm back in work on Tuesday and with Aled working shifts, it's going to be too easy to forget about our Me and Mine photos. We took this months photos on a rainy trip up to Aber Falls on Thursday. I wasn't actually going to use these as our Me and Mine photos but our plans to take some pictures today have been completely ruined by our my hangover. A night in watching the boxing and having pizza and a couple of drinks with friends turned out to be a bit of a late one and I definitely can't hack it any more. But we had a great night so it's all worth it... I think!

Elsie's Weaning Journey 6-8 Months

I thought I'd do an update on Elsie's weaning journey now that she's 8 months old and eating a whole new range of foods compared to her previous update. I'm absolutely loving weaning Elsie! She loves everything, which obviously makes weaning a lot easier in the first place but it's not just that, she actually has an interest in food and is always excited at meal times. Looking back at weaning Ollie (you can't help but compare them to their sibling), he had no real interest in food. He was never that bothered about finger food and soon became picky with spoon fed meals and just got progressively worse since then. I didn't do much differently with him though, but I can be far more creative with Elsie because she'll try anything instead of examine it to death first like Ollie would/still does. I swear he looks at me like I'm trying to poison him if I put homemade spaghetti bolognese in front of him. No lie.

Ella's Kitchen Baby Brekkie

Ella's Kitchen sent us some more goodies to try out a couple of weeks ago. This time, they sent a bag of the Carrot and Parsnip Melty Puffs and a bunch of the new Baby Brekkie range (not sure how new they are, but they weren't around when Ollie was weaning). As always, they were packaged up in a fun box with shredded paper (which the kids always love playing with afterwards.... not so fun for Mummy to tidy up though 😂). The products themselves are always so colourful and exciting too, we couldn't wait to try them out!

Elsie's 8 Month Update

So our Elsie Pie is now 8 months old and boy has she learnt some tricks this month! I'm not sure what she weighs or measures at the moment, I really should pop down to the clinic to get her weighed soon, but we are well and truly into 9-12 clothing. The odd 9-12 outfit is a little bit tight to be honest but there's plenty of growing room in most of them. I have my eye on a few new pieces of clothing from Zara for her at the moment, their summer range is just beautiful.

Siblings Project // April 2017

The bond between these two is getting stronger and stronger every month. This last month has seen their bond really grow as they've interacted more than ever. Plus now that Elsie's crawling, she really can join in the fun (even when Oliver's not keen on her doing so!). Oliver is really embracing the big brother role this last month, when Elsie's crying he goes up to her and says 'It's ok Elsie, don't cry Elsie' and wipes her tears away. It's the cutest thing ever, along with when he tells me he loves her. He also likes to 'read' books to her, in his own little way. Don't get me wrong, sometimes he's all about taking books off him but it's lovely when he wants to show her a book. Her little face lights up when he talks to her, or goes to give her a kiss. Plus he's started copying all the little sounds that she makes (especially when they're in the bath) which Elsie finds hilarious. Sibling love for sure!

Hoppy Easter Every Bunny!

Happy Easter! I've absolutely loved Easter this year. I don't know whether it's the fact that Aled's been off work or that Oliver's understood whats going on or that I've had a beautiful baby girl to dress up as a bunny 🐰💗 I got Elsie's new tutu from Freddie Loves. It's a Bob and Blossom one and I've wanted to buy one for a while. My plan was to give it to Elsie for her birthday so she could wear it for her party but it's far too gorgeous to store away until then! It's totally worth the money, the quality is amazing with plenty of layers and a lovely satin bow at the front. They do a few different colours, this is the Vintage Pink but I like the grey and mint options too. I'll definitely be buying more of them when she's older.

Oliver and Elsie's Easter Boxes

So here are Oliver and Elsie's finished Easter boxes! I'm not giving them to them until tomorrow morning but they're all ready. Huge thank you to my Dad for making the boxes (we've now got white ones for Easter, red ones for Christmas and some plain ones for Halloween which I'll be painting orange later this year). I've done an Easter box for Ollie every year now and I love that it's becoming a little tradition. They don't cost much to do, Oliver's comes to about £10 and Elsie's came to about £20 (hers cost more as I already had Oliver's yellow bunny from a couple of years ago).

I was tagged on Instagram by the lovely Yasmin (@mum_life_with_poppy) to share twenty facts about myself. Easter Box Ideas

I love doing a little Easter Box for Oliver (and now Elsie too!). I do them a box at Easter, Halloween and Christmas as a little gift and I hope it's a tradition that stays with our family. It doesn't have to cost a lot and is nicer than just giving mounds and mounds of chocolate. Plus, Oliver hates chocolate (I know, what a weirdo 😂) so it's always been pointless buying him tonnes of eggs. I thought I'd share a few ideas of how to put an Easter box together and some gifts to put inside...

Mothers Day 2017

I know Mother's Day was a week ago now but we took some lovely photos that day and it seems a shame not to share them! We were going to have lunch round at my Mum's for Mother's Day but changed our minds last minute and managed to book a table at our local pub, the Station Hotel, for the afternoon. It's not our first choice but we didn't have many options with only two days to go. The meal was lovely (not instagrammable though, they aren't the best at presenting food!), I had pate to start and steak as main. We popped to a different pub, the Mulberry, in the morning though for Ollie to have a look at the boats and play in the park area. Mum and Dad actually had breakfast their too, which looked amazing. I ordered Ollie some toast, which he said he wanted but then threw a wobbler when I put butter on it. How stupid of me, it's not like he'd already had a slice of toast that morning with butter on. Toddlers.

Me and Mine // March 2017

What a month. I know this month's Me and Mine photos are a bit late but I've been playing catch up for the last 10 days. The news that Mum's got breast cancer hit me like a brick wall. I was a mess the first few days, not physically but mentally. My mum has been so optimistic and brave since the second she got the news, she's an absolute star. However I took the news badly, more because your parents always seem invincible to you. They're never meant to get sick right?! It's the realisation that one day my Mum or Dad will/might get ill that I couldn't deal with. Luckily I have a bloody amazing guy by my side and the best friends to talk it out (and ugly cry it out, sorry about that Aled!) and get me back on track. So I've been feeling much better since last Saturday but the last 10 days have been a bit of a blur to be honest.

Ella's Kitchen Stage 2 Goodies

We were lucky enough to be sent some goodies from Ella's Kitchen last week for Elsie to try. As she's turned 7 months old now, there's a whole new range of their foods that she can try (Stage 2). In the box was four different meal pouches (fish pie, beef stew, bangers and mash and the new chilli con carne) and two packed of the melty puffs (strawberry & banana and tomato & leek). The pouches are the perfect consistency to move onto after the stage 1 purees so easy for them to adjust to.

Elsie's 7 Month Update

Well I did think this would be the month I could finally say that Elsie's cut a tooth.... but it never happened! She has had a definite lump on her bottom gum for 10 days now and you can see a bit of white sometimes but still no sign of the little bugger popping through. She's not been suffering too badly though thankfully. I did think she'd start crawling too (Oliver started crawling two days before he turned 7 months old) but she's not quite there yet. I think we're close though, she's almost mastered it and is so determined to be on the move. God help us once she is, nothing will be safe!!

Siblings Project // March 2017

We took this months photos at our local RSPB Nature Reserve in Conwy. They've got a play area with sand thats free to visit and I completely forget about it. It's only a two minute drive from the house so I'm going to try and get down there more often. It was especially nice to go there now that the weather is brightening up a bit and spring seems to have arrived. We didn't even have to wear coats it was that nice! Elsie ate her fair share of sand (she found it absolutely fascinating, which is why I couldn't get her to look at the camera!) and Oliver tipped a spade full of sand all over me and Elsie when I wasn't looking which went everywhere 😂🙈

Elsie's Bedroom Tour

Cot bed: Mothercare // Chair: IKEA // Cloud Cushion: Mamas and Papas
A few of you have been asking for a room tour of Elsie's nursery, so here it is! I have always dreamt of decorating a nursery for a daughter one day and I absolutely love how Elsie's room turned out. Her bedroom has a cloud theme, which developed from having the pink mountains (which were the first thing I knew I'd want in her room after 1787450187 hours spent on Pinterest). The room is painted in Dulux 'Just Walnut', just like Oliver's bedroom, and the pink mountains feature wall is painted using Leyland 'Pure Romance'.

Afternoon Tea at Bodnant Welsh Food

I love a bit of afternoon tea, who doesn't?! Don't get me wrong, I love a night out too but lets face it, they are few and far between these days! It can be tricky to organise a date with my girls as we all have busy lives but I bloody love a good catch up with them (especially when it involves cake and tea). We wanted to try somewhere new for our lunch this time so decided on Bodnant Welsh Food Centre. I've actually been there once before but it was when they'd just opened and I was newly pregnant with Oliver. Elsie came with us too (she is our littlest member of our girl gang after all!) so Aled ands Oliver could have a bit of quality time together, something they were in need of as he's a proper Mummy's boy at the moment and is 'no' central for his Daddy.

Elsie's Weaning Journey 4-6 Months

Weaning is such an exciting time for baby and parent. It's a huge milestone and wether you chose to start at 4 or 6 months, it should be when baby is ready so that it's not rushed and this fun new stage can be enjoyed by everyone. Oliver and Elsie were/are big babies and have big appetites. I knew Elsie was ready to start weaning at 4 months as she was watching us like a hawk when we were eating, constantly trying to grab our food and 8oz bottles were barely keeping her full for 2 hours instead of the usual 4 hours.

How to Make a Memory Frame

I get quite a few people asking me how I made Oliver and Elsie's newborn memory frames so I thought I'd share a quick how-to guide. I originally got the idea for the frames from Pinterest when I was pregnant with Oliver, I loved the idea of having one of his first sleep suits up on the wall with other little bits of memorabilia from the hospital so I could always look back at it rather than them being stored away in a box somewhere. Plus the frames are a lovely addition to their bedrooms.

World Book Day 2017

There was only ever going to be one choice for World Book Day this year... the Gruffalo! Oliver is absolutely obsessed with the Gruffalo. To be honest, he's a fan of most of the Julia Donaldson books, the Gruffalo is his favourite but the Gruffalo's Child, Stick Man, the Room on the Broom and Zog are also high up there. He asks us to read the book to him every day (even though he knows them off by heart and could read them to himself!) and is never without one of the characters from the story. He loves the mini films of the books too, acting out the whole thing while it's on which is really cute but pretty loud and dramatic, no idea where he gets his performer characteristic from! His obsession has helped us get him interested in jigsaws, drawing and painting too which I'm really grateful for.

I got an email from Asda about a month ago selling costumes for World Book Day which got me searching for an outfit for Ollie straight away. He's not one for cooperating in fancy dress yet so when I found this onesie in the sale on Debenhams online, I knew it would be a winner with him. Plus with it being in the sale, double winner.

I'm a huge fan of reading to the kids, I think it's a lovely tradition to have and lets their imagination run wild. I used to love reading the Jacqueline Wilson and Harry Potter books when I was younger and most definitely hoping that they'll want me to read the Harry Potter books to them in a few years. We've got quite a lot of children's books and I get most of them in Asda/Tesco (on the 2 for £7 offer), Amazon or the Book People (who always have great offers on).

I wonder what he'll want to be dressed up as next year?...

Me and Mine // February 2017

Another month of 2017 already gone! I can't believe we're going to be into March already tomorrow. February has been kind to us... we've had plenty of days out, a couple of play dates, a pretty healthy month food-wise (although the last week has been far from it 🐷), a date night, shopping day, valentines day and a week off altogether over half term. Managed to get a few things off an ongoing to-do list ticked off too which always makes me feel better too.

Share:

February Half Term

I had lots of plans for half term but unfortunately most of them didn't happen. With the weather being miserable (apart from Monday and Friday), Elsie teething like crazy and no one getting a good nights sleep, cosy days at home appealed more. However, we've got a crazy 3 year old to try and tire out so we tried to get out as much as possible. Seriously, he's only in playgroup for two hours every morning but he's mental without going there! I get tired just watching him run around like a loon!

Oliver's Bedroom Tour

Lightbox: This Modern Life // Elmer: JoJo Maman Bebe

I absolutely love the kids' bedrooms. I have to admit, decorating Elsie's has come a bit more naturally to me (possibly due to endless looking at baby girl nursery ideas on Pinterest when I was pregnant!) but I'm finally getting there with Ollie's room now. There's still a couple of things left to do, like paint his mountains wall behind his bed and paint his kitchen, as I ran out of time before Christmas. So here it is at the moment! I've put links to everything under the photos (unless it's not sold anymore) but let me know if I've missed something out and you'd like to know where it's from.

4moms Mamaroo Review

After the car seat, pram and nursery furniture, the 4moms Mamaroo is the most expensive baby purchase I've ever made. So naturally, I hesitated at first because no one wants to part with £300 in a rush. When Oliver was a baby, we had a Winnie the Pooh rocker from Mothercare that vibrated and played lullabies. He absolutely loved it and used it until he was about 5 or 6 months old. We kept it in the garage for baby number two but it was no where near good enough for Miss Elsie!

Elsie's 6 Month Update

We are officially half way to one! At six months old, Elsie is weighing approximately 20lb and measuring 70cms long/tall (I think anyway, bit tricky to weigh and measure her at home but we've got her 6 month check up with the health visitor on Tuesday so I'll know for sure then). Teething has still been in full force this past month but no sign of any popping through. Hopefully it'll be this month *fingers crossed*.
